‘(Oh) Hyun-gyu, can I go to (Son) Heung-min?

The search for the next manager of English Premier League 먹튀검증(EPL) side Tottenham Hotspur continues to be confusing.

Following the sacking of Antonio Conte, a number of managers have been linked with the job, and one name has recently emerged as a potential candidate. It was Feyenoord manager Arne Slott. He led Feyenoord to the Dutch Eredivisie title this season and was a top target for Tottenham.

Local media predicted that Spurs would soon make an official announcement of Slott’s appointment. However, it didn’t happen. Slott himself announced that he was staying at Feyenoord. The search for Tottenham’s next manager went back to the drawing board.

Then, the previously mentioned candidates started popping up again. Former Bayern Munich coach Juergen Nagelsmann, former Spain national team coach Luis Enrique, and others were reported to have re-entered the race.

Against this backdrop, several British media outlets claimed that there was a manager who had emerged as the favourite after the slot had fallen through – Celtic boss Enze Postecoglou. He is the manager of South Korea’s national team, Oh Hyun-gyu. If the deal goes through, Postecoglou would replace Oh and become the mentor of South Korea international Son Heung-min.

“Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy is strongly considering Postecoglou after Spurs were rejected by Slott,” said the Express. Postecoglou has now moved to the top of the list to become Spurs’ next manager,” the Express reported.

“Postecoglou has led Celtic to numerous honours over the past two years, including the league title. He is one of the most exciting managers in world football. Tottenham have a good relationship with Celtic, which will make negotiations easier.”

“Having been denied the slot, Spurs have now turned their attention to Postecoglou,” said the UK’s Football Insider. Postecoglou has been the subject of steady interest from Tottenham. He has been on their shortlist since shortly after Conte was sacked. The breakdown in talks with Slott means Tottenham can open talks with Postecoglou,” the report said.

“Spurs’ original idea was to appoint a young manager who could rebuild the team in the same way Mauricio Pochettino did, so Postecoglou’s age, 57, pushed him down the list of priorities. But now that Slott has failed, Celtic have taken note of Postecoglou’s achievements – he’s a Celtic hero. He’s a hero at Celtic. He’s the manager Tottenham are most focused on right now.”

There’s another reason why Postecoglou is on Levy’s radar. It’s because he’s on a relatively low payroll for his current job. It has been reported that Slott could be paid up to 36 billion won.

“According to insider sources, Postecoglou’s compensation is low. This will be very attractive to Chairman Levy.”
