In the major leagues, if a player who has been raised for three years full-time cannot agree on an annual salary with the club, the annual salary is adjusted through the Salary Adjustment Committee.

Burns, who received $6.5 million (about 8.33 billion won) last year, wanted $10.75 million (about 13.79 billion won) as an annual salary for the 2023 season.

However, the club offered 10.01 million dollars, and the gap of 740,000 dollars did not close.

Eventually, Burns and the club went to the Salary Adjustment Committee, and the club won.

Burns, who jumped into the big leagues in 2018, recorded 11 wins, 5 losses and an average ERA of 2.43 in 2021, winning the Cy Young Award and opening his prime.

He went 12-8 with a 2.94 earned run average last year as well. His strikeouts thinned out to 243, ranking first in the inner ear category.
