A total of eight players have been confirmed as candidates for the 2023 Shinhan Bank Shootout KBO League Monthly MVP for June.
LG’s Adam Plutko, Kiwoom’s Im Chang-min, Lotte’s Park Se-woong, and Doosan’s Raul Alcantara are among the pitchers. SSG Choi Jeong-jeong, Kiwoom Lee Jung-hoo, KT Hwang Jae-gyun, and Hanwha Noh Shi-hwan were selected from the outfield.
LG’s Plutko had a dominant month of June. In five games, he pitched 32 innings, striking out 31 (2nd) and giving up just five runs for a 0.84 ERA. All five games were quality starts (6+ innings and 3 earned runs or less), and LG went 4-1 with a 100% winning percentage in Plutko’s starts.
In Kiwoom’s 14 wins in June, Lim Chang-min led the team in saves (9) with nine blown saves, paving the way for the team’s rise to the top of the standings. He also recorded his 20th career 100-save game in the KBO on June 4 against SSG in Munhak.
Since returning to the KBO this year, Alcantara has continued to perform consistently. Most notably, he led the league in strikeouts last month with 33, nearly one per inning. He is also ranked second in the league with a 1.35 ERA and tied for second in wins with three.
Lotte’s Park Se-woong hasn’t been as fortunate, but he has posted a 1.56 ERA (4th) in five games and has pitched a total of 34⅔ innings on the mound for Lotte, including three games of seven innings or more. Park was also named to the Dream All-Star Team as one of the 12 best pitchers.
On the offensive side of the ball, SSG’s Choi Jung stood out. Choi hit 11 home runs in June alone to lead the team in home runs with 19 on the season. He also led the league in RBIs (27) and slugging percentage (.787), was second in runs scored (23), and fourth in on-base percentage (.431).
After a slow start to the season, Lee returned to his ace form in June. Lee batted .374 with 34 hits in the month of June, raising his batting average to .308 after hovering in the double digits at the start of the season. Along with Lee’s rebound, Kiwoom has also climbed up the standings and is in a fierce battle for second place.스포츠토토
KT’s Hwang Jae-gyun is also in the running for the monthly MVP honor with his tremendous hitting. He topped the monthly batting averages in June with 34 hits and a batting average of nearly .395. He also recorded six games with three or more hits.
Hanwha’s home run hitter, Noh Shi-hwan, also ranked among the top players in various categories in June, including No. 1 in hits and No. 2 in home runs and RBI. With six more home runs in June, Noh now has 17 home runs, one shy of his career-high (18). Noh is also in contention for the SSG and Golden Glove third baseman of the year honors at the same position.
The monthly MVPs will be selected by combining fan voting on Shinhan Bank’s mobile application ‘Shinhan SOL’ from April 4 to April 8 and the votes of the Korea Baseball Writers’ Association journalists.
The final results will be announced on the 10th, and the winner will receive a cash prize of 2 million won and a donation of 2 million won to the MVP’s home middle school, sponsored by Shinhan Bank, in the player’s name.
