After exploding for a debut goal in the Danish first division and being named to the opening round’s Best 11, Mittwylan’s Kyu-sung Cho is looking to expand his horizons and take on the UEFA club competition.
Mittwylan will host Luxembourg club Progress Nidercom in the first leg of the UEFA Europa Conference second qualifying round for the 2023/24 season at the MCH Arena in Henning, Denmark, at 1:45 p.m. on Sunday (July 27).
After scoring his debut goal on his Danish league debut, Cho Kyu-sung will be looking to make his European debut against Nethercombe.
Earlier, Cho scored a powerful header against Hvidovre in the opening game of the Danish Superliga on May 22, heading in a cross from Paulinho on the left flank. It was reminiscent of his second goal against Ghana in the second round of the World Cup group stage in Qatar last year. For his role in the team’s victory, Cho was named Man of the Match (MOTM). “I’m very happy to make my debut for Meatwillan,” he said after the game. With a debut goal, MOTM, and Best of the Round honors, Cho now has his sights set on the European stage. The Europa Conference is UEFA’s third-tier competition after the Champions League and Europa League. It features teams from the mid-tier of Europe’s big leagues and the top teams from the lower divisions.
Their opponents finished runners-up in the Luxembourg league last season, but given that Luxembourg is a small country sandwiched between Belgium and the Netherlands, it is expected that Mittwylan will have the upper hand in terms of strength. If Cho Kyu-soo is at his best, he could score a goal on his UEFA debut, as well as his second consecutive goal since joining the club.
He has erased the controversy that surrounded his arrival in Denmark, including at league level. The game against Nethercombe will be a testament to how well he’s landed in Europe.
