South Korean singer and actor Jung Yong-hwa traveled to China to appear on a Chinese entertainment program, but his appearance was suddenly canceled, it was reported on the 23rd. With the recent deterioration of relations between China and South Korea, there are concerns that the Hanhan decree (限韓令) has been reinstated.
On the 10th, Chinese media outlets such as Xinhua reported that Jung Yong-hwa would be appearing in a new audition program called “Buntuhara Freshman Class 1” on Aichi, a popular Chinese online video service (OTT).
Zheng Yonghua arrived in Beijing on July 17 and posted a photo of her arrival at the airport on social media (SNS).
However, a recent report circulated online in China that the Beijing Municipal Radio and Television Bureau responded to a netizen’s inquiry about Jung Yong Hwa’s appearance by saying that it was not true.
“After checking with Aichi, the news that Zheng Yonghua is filming an entertainment program in Beijing is not true,” the Beijing Municipal Radio and Television Bureau said, adding, “The program will not use Zheng Yonghua as a guest in the future.”
Online media outlets such as China’s Tengxun Net reported on March 23 that Chinese netizens had reported Zheng Yonghua’s plans to appear on the program to broadcasting authorities, which led to the cancellation.
The THAAD (Terminal High Altitude Area Defense) missile defense system (THAAD) embargo began in 2016, but in recent years, the embargo has been easing, with the film “Oh! 먹튀검증Moonhee” (directed by Jung Sae-kyo) starring Na Moon-hee and Lee Hee-joon being released in mainland China in December 2021, six years after the embargo.
Recently, as relations between China and South Korea have deteriorated over the Taiwan issue, there are concerns that China is trying to reimpose the restrictions.
Recently, South Korean portal site Naver has been blocked in China.
In October 2018, China blocked access to NAVER’s cafe and blog in retaliation for the THAAD system.
It is unclear whether NAVER’s access is temporary or due to blocking measures by the Chinese authorities.
